Gustavo Dudamel opens the Orchestra’s subscription season. Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 — which marked Gustavo’s Philharmonic debut — glorifies the grandeur of the human spirit. The concert opens with John Adams’s On the Transmigration of Souls, co-commissioned by the Philharmonic, the haunting reflection on the lives lost and changed by the September 11 attacks, which won a Pulitzer Prize and three Grammy Awards. A new work, Invisible House, by Zosha Di Castri completes the program. Encore Reception We will host a post-concert Encore reception with Philharmonic musicians and guest artists following the September 19 performance. This is a benefit for donors at the Supporting Patron level and above. With questions or to RSVP, contact patrondesk@nyphil.org .
