Minnesota Chorale Classical Concert Listings

​Since 2002, our InChoir program has invited the community to step inside the rehearsal process and sing alongside members of the Chorale as Kathy explores choral masterworks from the inside out. It is one of the hallmarks of the Minnesota Chorale — the deliberate blurring of the line between artist and audience, the belief that choral music belongs to everyone who wants to get close to it. This season, we open with an InChoir experience focusing on Maurice Duruflé's Requiem, Opus 9 — one of the most sublime settings of the Mass for the Dead. Luminous, transcendent, and deeply human, this is a timeless musical journey of darkness and light based on traditional Gregorian Chant. Scores are provided and everyone is welcome.

​Less than two weeks after our InChoir exploration of the Duruflé Requiem, we present the entire work in a memorial performance paired with meditative readings. Singers who joined us on October 1 will now experience a full realization of the Requiem as the Chorale presents it in one of the Twin Cities' most beautiful sacred spaces with guest organist Ju Young Lee at the console. The Requiem, Opus 9 is a meditation on the complex journey of humankind when facing death. Duruflé wrote: “This Requiem is not an ethereal work which sings of detachment from earthly worries. It reflects, in the immutable form of the Christian prayer, the agony of man faced with the mystery of his ultimate end.” This concert is the first full breath of the season: an opportunity for reflection and commemoration of those we have lost, as well as a celebration of the love and community that surround us still.
