This event is free and open to the public upon registration: Register Here The tromba marina is a rare acoustic instrument known for its single string and triangular shape, played mostly during the Middle Ages and the Baroque era in Europe. Born in 2025, the Tromba Marina Quartet is composed of Rachel Beetz, Alma Laprida, Nate Scheible and Brian Weitz, all of whom are musicians and sound artists living in the DC and Baltimore area. They play four of these mysterious instruments, amplified and processed, using a range of traditional and experimental approaches. The concert comprises new works for Tromba Marina Quartet, including improvised and composed pieces by Laura Cetilia and members of the ensemble. ABOUT MUSIC IN THE PAVILION Presented by the University of Pennsylvania's Music Department, the Kislak Center for Special Collections, Rare Books and Manuscripts, and the Otto E. Albrecht Music Library, the music series Music in the Pavilion takes place in the beautiful sixth-floor Class of 1978 Orrery Pavilion in Van Pelt Library.
