Christine Amon is a versatile mezzo-soprano excelling in opera, musical theater, and art song. Her stage roles include Dorabella in Così fan tutte, the title role in Cendrillon, Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Erika in Vanessa, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, and Carrie Pipperidge in Carousel, among many others. She has appeared with Nashville Opera, Opera Carolina, Toledo Opera, Opera Grand Rapids, Union Avenue Opera, Opera Louisiane, and Opera Memphis. Ms. Amon also created the role of Mich in Mich and the Moon in the premiere of The Ghosts of Crosstown at Opera Memphis. In 2018 she was a finalist in the international Lotte Lenya Competition hosted by the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music. Concert performances include Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Bach’s Magnificat, Will Todd’s Mass in Blue, Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony, and Handel’s Messiah. Hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Amon earned her BM at Grand Valley State University where she was named a Distinguished Alumna in 2015, and her MM from Bowling Green State University. She earned a doctorate at the University of Michigan and currently teaches classical and musical theatre voice at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. This season, Amon will perform Gustav Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with the Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra. Kenneth J. Pereira , baritone, enjoys an active career on the operatic, concert, and recital stages. His operatic roles include Puccini’s Marcello in La Bohème, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, the title role in Gianni Schicchi, and Mozart’s Il Conte Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte among others. Internationally, he has appeared as the baritone soloist in numerous opera gala performances in both Italy and Mexico in works by Verdi, Puccini, and Donizetti. Recently, he has performed with the Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra in works by Beethoven and Mahler. Dr. Pereira also has been a soloist with the Eau Claire Chamber in works by Bach, Handel, and Mozart. Prior to his arrival in the Chippewa Valley, Dr. Pereira appeared regularly as a soloist with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Raymond Leppard in works by Beethoven and Haydn. He is also a featured soloist on the orchestra’s 2008 recording of classical and traditional Christmas music. Gifted with a rare combination of stunning virtuosity, serene lyricism and an unfaltering musicality, Ehnes is a favorite guest at the world’s most celebrated concert halls. Recent and upcoming orchestral highlights include the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, NHK Symphony, LA Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Cleveland Orchestra. A devoted chamber musician, Ehnes is the Artistic Director of the Seattle Chamber Music Society and the leader of the Ehnes Quartet. As a recitalist, he performs regularly at Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, Symphony Center Chicago, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Verbier Festival, Dresden Music Festival and Festival de Pâques in Aix. Ehnes has an extensive discography and has won many awards for his recordings, including two Grammys, three Gramophone Awards and twelve Juno Awards, the most of any classical musician in history. In 2021, Ehnes was announced as the recipient of the coveted Artist of the Year award at the 2021 Gramophone Awards which celebrated his recent contributions to the recording industry, including the launch of a new online recital series entitled ‘Recitals from Home’ which was released in June 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent closure of concert halls. Ehnes recorded the six Bach Sonatas and Partitas and six Sonatas of Ysaÿe from his home with state-of-the-art recording equipment and released six episodes over the period of two months. These recordings have been met with great critical acclaim by audiences worldwide and Ehnes was described by Le Devoir as being “at the absolute forefront of the streaming evolution”. Ehnes began violin studies at the age of five, became a protégé of the noted Canadian violinist Francis Chaplin aged nine, and made his orchestra debut with L’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal aged 13. He continued his studies with Sally Thomas at the Meadowmount School of Music and The Juilliard School, winning the Peter Mennin Prize for Outstanding Achievement and Leadership in Music upon his graduation in 1997. Joseph Trucano is a Minneapolis based organist, pianist, and cellist. He serves as the Organist & Ensemble Director at Westminster Presbyterian Church in downtown Minneapolis, where he is active as a performer, director, and composer. Prior to this, he was the Associate Producer of American Public Media’s nationally broadcast Pipedreams program and curator of the statewide Pop Up Classical series. Joe remains a busy collaborator throughout the Twin Cities, with recent engagements including the Minnesota Chorale, Schubert Club, 10th Wave Chamber Ensemble, National Lutheran Choir, Woven Voices, VocalPoint Chorus, Justice Choir, Minnesota Public Radio, Twin Cities American Guild of Organists, and collaborations with members of the Minnesota Orchestra. Joe holds a M.M. in Organ Performance & Literature from the Eastman School of Music, where he received the James B. Cochran Award for excellence in performance, and a B.M. in Organ Performance from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. Patricia Ryan is a Billboard chart-topping performing cellist based in Minneapolis, MN and has performed with some of the world’s leading musicians including pianist Emanuel Ax, the Pacifica String Quartet, violinist Geoff Nuttall, violist John Largess, cellist Norman Fischer, Natasha Brofsky and Jean-Michel Fonteneau, and jazz saxophonist Miguel Zenón. She is a core member of the Houston-based conductorless ensemble Kinetic Ensemble, Minnesota’s 10th Wave Chamber Collective and is a founding member of Trio Zenia. For over fifty years, Filipino composer Ryan Cayabyab has cultivated an incredibly eclectic musical oeuvre. His work spans opera and ballet, musical theater and television, film scores, and much more, though he is perhaps best known for his pioneering contributions to Filipino popular music, known as OPM (Original Pilipino Music). His place as a Filipino musical icon was formally enshrined in 2018, when he was named a National Artist of the Philippines. In this program, Minnesota-based Filipino-Americans Isabella Dawis, Walter Tambor, and Paolo Debuque will celebrate the music of Ryan Cayabyab, sharing songs and histories to honor his lasting impact on Filipino culture. Violinist Stephanie Arado’s career encompasses a wide range of performance and teaching experience. Ms. Arado began her violin studies at the age of five and played her first solo recital when she was eight. Since her debut with the Chicago Symphony as a 12 year old, Ms. Arado has performed as soloist with symphony orchestras throughout the United States, including the Detroit, St. Louis, and Minnesota Orchestras. Ms. Arado spent 22 years as Assistant Concertmaster of the Minnesota Orchestra and also served as Concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony. In 2012, Ms. Arado resigned from her position with the Minnesota Orchestra to devote more time to teaching and chamber music. Ms. Arado has participated in chamber music festivals both nationally and internationally and has had the privilege to perform with such masters as Paul Tortelier, Joseph Silverstein, and Yuri Bashmet. A recipient of a McKnight Foundation Grant for Performing Artists, Ms. Arado maintains a private teaching studio in Minneapolis and is an Artistic Director of the Bakken Trio, a chamber music consortium she has performed with since 1991. Violinist Emily Switzer is a 2019 graduate of the Yale School of Music and 2017 graduate of Yale University. Former co-concertmaster of the Yale Symphony Orchestra, she is a winner of the 2015 Friends of Music Recital Competition, the 2016 William Waite Competition and a recipient of the 2016 Sharp Prize for Music. She has performed with numerous orchestras including the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Lakewood Symphony, Denver Philharmonic, Littleton Symphony and Yale Symphony Orchestra. In January 2022, she performed with the Yale Philharmonia as a winner of the 2019 Woolsey Concerto Competition. Recipient of the 2017 Yale Louis Sudler Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts, the Yale Wrexham Prize and the Fry Cup for Contributions to the Arts, she has studied with Hyo Kang, Wendy Sharp, James Maurer, Kathleen Winkler, Jorja Fleezanis, Alexander Treger and Glenn Dicterow. An avid chamber musician and advocate of new music, she was a winner of the 2018 Yale Oneppo Chamber Music Competition, and in May of 2018 premiered a violin concerto by emerging composer Max Vinetz. She attended Music Academy of the West in 2015 and 2016, and in 2017 participated in their Global Academy Program, a 10-day immersive performance residency with the New York Philharmonic. She is a two-time fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center and in 2017 was awarded the program’s Jules C.
Now in its fourth decade of compelling performances and mentoring of young string players, the Artaria String Quartet was lauded by Rob Hubbard of the St. Paul Pioneer Press — “Artaria Quartet is likely to give eloquent voice to whatever work it tackles.” Artaria has served as MPR Artists-in-Residence and was featured on Twin Cities Public Television as part of the MN-Original Television series. A finalist at the Banff International String Quartet Competition, the quartet has appeared at major summer festivals including Festival de L’Epau in France, and the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, Massachusetts. Artaria is the recipient of a highly coveted McKnight Fellowship for Performing Musicians and has received Teaching Artist grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Chamber Music America, Midori’s Partners in Performance, and the Heartland Fund for performance and educational outreach. They have also been awarded numerous Minnesota State Arts Board grants for creative educational programming across Minnesota. Members of the quartet are founders and directors of the Artaria Chamber Music School, a weekly chamber music program for young string players, Stringwood, a two-week summer festival held in Lanesboro, MN each summer, and the Saint Paul String Quartet Competition, an annual international event that showcases America’s finest young high school and college string quartets.
