Season 78 opens with a celebration of the music of John Williams , Hollywood’s greatest orchestral storyteller and a composer whose music has defined generations of moviegoers. From the wonder and imagination of E.T. and Jurassic Park to the poignant Across the Stars from Star Wars Episode II and the deeply moving Elegy for Cello and Orchestra featuring Christopher Costanza, this program showcases Williams at his most memorable and expressive. The concert also pays tribute to the Golden Age of Hollywood with Erich Wolfgang Korngold’ s Kings Row Suite and Hooray for Hollywood , culminating in the epic adventure and unforgettable themes of the Star Wars Suite . Women of Note is the Kloetzel-Chapman Duo’s multi-season project celebrating cello and piano repertoire by women which, through thoughtfully curated programs demonstrate that this music belongs at the center of the cello and piano repertoire, not at its margins. Their program with Old First Concerts features music by Hélène Liebmann, Luise Le Beau, Mel Bonis, and Leokadiya Kashperova.
